THIS IS NOT A LIFE SAVING DEVICE

Hartman Park is Nestled between the Port of Houston and hundreds of square miles of chemical plants. The park is located in Houston, Texas, and is part of the Harrisburg and Manchester neighborhood. It was once a nature sanctuary for birds. The residents living around the park have a unique experience and understanding of their surroundings. Their home and beloved park are in an industrial wasteland with waterways, city dumps, freeways, and chemical factories. Over decades, the petroleum and energy industry has encroached on this Brown and Black community. The rendered sketch is a replica of the area and project.

"This is not a life-saving device" is a 3D rendering of a sculpture installation for the City of Houston. Each 11-barge lifeboat contains a UV Light and Hepa filter, air purifier, air scrubber, negative air system integration, and solar battery power setup. The lifeboats will be locked; no one may enter the installation. Locking and containing the clean air is a symbolic gesture that relays the message of air pollution in Houston, Texas, and its inaccessibility to the public.
